The Siddha Clinic

Sivaraj has an education in Siddha medicine, a traditional form of south-Indian healing that is similar to Ayurvedic herbal healing. Many years he studied under the Siddha guru Dr. Salvarasu (one of South Indias renowned Siddha practitioners). In the Siddha clinic in Koot Road Sivaraj prepares the medicine from the plants of the Herbal Garden and gives treatments.

The main purpose is to teach the local people about Siddha medicine. We want to create a bond with their traditions, the Ayurvedic lifestyle and medical knowledge of plants. With our work we want to increase the possibilities of deprived people from the surroundings by offering them the possibility to specialize in Ayurvedic plants and medicine, by means of offering an elementary course and training period in the centre. In future we want to create work for deprived young people by giving them a job in the clinic.

 

In the last years there was a big interest in Ayurvedic in the western world. All the offerings of the Siddha clinic are not only for local people but also for guests. With this income we want to support the people of the lower casts: For them we provide a free or low cost treatment. The medicine and oils we sell in the villages for a low price. For guests in Auroville the price is higher but still fair. In this way guests from other countries can support the locals in the surrounding: for every bottle of oil sold in Auroville we can sell another bottle of oil in the villages to the poor people.

We also offer massages in the Clinic as well on a small scale in the Herbal Garden. Handicapped children from Pondicherry come every week for massages.

In the Clinic different courses will be given, what is already happening. A group called “Healing Touch” from California comes once a year to give a seminar. Healing Touch is an energy therapy in which practitioners use their hands to enhance and balance the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of their clients.

The goal in Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system, facilitating the client’s self healing process.

 

Restaurant and Boutique

One very important aspect in Siddha medicine is healthy food. For this we will offer good meals and juices in a small restaurant besides the Siddha clinic. Upstairs there will be a boutique where all the products of Martuvam will be sold:

It is planned to open the restaurant and the boutique at the end of the year 2010.
